Why Number 5 Lives in Texas:

Last week, Number 5 accused me of being frozen solid here in the great, white North. I looked out the window at the melting snow thought how wrong he was - surely spring was just around the corner and we would soon be wearing short sleeve shirts and shorts. And then it snowed another 3 inches that night, covering everything with a fresh blanket of white. Later that week, we enjoyed a few days of the winter delight known as inversion. Which means that we don't see any sunshine for days in a row, it stays brutally cold and we get amazing amounts of frost on everything that lasts all day. The next few pictures were taken at 1pm after I had taken SP to school.

These are the trees along the river that runs through the golf course near our house. Can you imagine how sad it makes the Mister to see all that snow and frost over his beloved green fairways?

This is another tree on the golf course, just closer to the road.

These are the nasty little thistles that infest the creek that runs by the park near our house. I almost feel bad seeing them so frozen. Almost.

Poor little duckies! Why have you not flown further south!?!

The next day we saw the sun again but since the frost had not melted the day before, the frost was even more impressive.

The pine tree outside my house.

The trees across the street.

A close-up of the frost on the pine tree - the frost is nearly an inch thick!

It is currently all of 14 degrees out right now and I'm having a hard time not going back to bed.

Smoked a chicken in the smoker this last weekend. Trees are already budding.
Going to the frozen wasteland of western NM this weekend.
But next, the baby back pork ribs are on the menu!
Daffodils will be blooming within a few weeks (they're already up) and then:
Summer of hickory smoke will soon begin . . .

WOW! You got some much better pictures that I did of the frost. It sure looks beautiful but doesn't feel so nice.

Yeah, it's cold, but it's so beautiful! I love the contrast of the palm trees on your blog background with your frozen photos. :-)
